My father is an “entrepreneur” and  I consider myself one as well. Whether you’re born with it in your blood or God just puts you on that path in life I believe it is an opportunity among the many God given one out there. Maybe your child will become an entrepreneur.

This week’s guest, Sarah Cook has an awesome new business she is building called Raising Biz Kids. This next week however she is putting on a live telesummit for kids who want to be biz kids and parents of those biz kids called “Biz Kids Success Summit” . For today’s show I interviewed a young lady in ministry, Michelle Myers, who several years ago struggled with a big temptation and sin in her life. Her sin was unlike some that teens struggle with, but all the same it was the area where Satan attacked her life.

She shares her story of dealing with anorexia, bringing her close to death, but ultimately closer to Christ. She now shares her story as a way to share Christ with others. It is an awesome testimony all young girls need to hear.

At the end of today’s show I made a big announcement about my latest project. God has lead me out of my comfort zone, to speak to parents. You all know I am passionate about tweens and teens and I love to stand in front of them and speak, sit with them and chat, or just hang out with them, but it isn’t as natural for me to speak to their parents. However, God is leading me to do so and I am being obedient.

The result is the workshop I will be doing LIVE in my hometown, Pro-Tech the Kids Workshop, on Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009 at 7 pm at North Winona Baptist Church in Winona, Mississippi. Find out more info on the website. This event will be available online via video recording after the event.

I have had accountability partners in my life since my teen years.  Today, I asked a friend to be my accountability partner for my ministry / business.  I was thrilled that she agreed.  Since I feel this is so important in my life I thought I’d share this with you.  I hope that you’ll encourage your tween or teen daughter to find an accountability partner in her life.  Maybe you need one too.  Listen to today’s podcast to learn what qualities you should look for in an accountability partner.

I asked my friend Kristen, because I knew she’d hold my feet to the fire.  Before we were even accountability partners she called me on something without even my asking her to do so.  She felt that God had told her to, that’s the kind of friend I want as my accountability partner.  One that will listen to God’s prompting and act accordingly.

Many times you hear of supporting a “good cause”, from giving money to a children’s hospital to walking in a walk that raises money for cancer patients there are a world of “good causes” out there that you can be apart of and teach your children about, however there is no greater cause than the cause of Christ.  Don’t get me wrong, I believe that we should support great causes such as those I mentioned, but even more so, I believe we should teach our children to be “mission-minded”.

I grew up in a “mission-minded” church, today I attend and volunteer in another “mission-minded” church.  These church families believe in missions, “telling others the good news of Jesus Christ”.  We support missions through prayer, education and financial support, some of our members go on mission trips and we do our best to spread the good news of Jesus Christ.  As a child I attended a missions group for girls and I now direct a similar group for teen girls in my local church.

I hope to raise “mission-minded” kids.  It is my goal that they understand that missions is “every Christian’s responsibility” not just those who choose to give more by becoming a missionary and traveling to or living on the other side of the world, but we are all called to “live out” the Great Commission,

“Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Teach your daughter about missions, give her the opportunity to give to and pray for missions, maybe even take a “family mission trip” or allow her to go with a group on a missions trip. It will be a life changing experience. It will make an impact on her.

Never forget why we are saved, to carry on the news of salvation to others, and that involves being “missions-minded”, it is our Greatest Mission!

Alyssa looks back over the past year of hiatus from the show and then looks back on the past 10 years and what God has done. This week Alyssa discusses the factors that affect a girl’s decision about college and addresses the question, “Does God care?” Listen in for Alyssa’s take on making this important decision. College may not be for everyone, but regardless it’s a decision every person must make for themselves. Help your daughter to make the decision that is right for her.

As I mentioned in this week’s episode I am reading a fabulous book by Lysa Terkeurst called What Happens When Women Say Yes to God. I highly recommend it.

A good friend and online mentor of mine is WAHM Talk Radio’s Kelly McCausey. She often does her show as a friendly chat and calls it Coffee with Kelly. I love these shows of hers so much. So, I was inspired by her idea and thought, hey I would love to do that, however, I am not a coffee drinker, and my beverage of choice today is sweet tea. So, I am doing “Sweet Tea with Alyssa”.

This first Sweet Tea episode I share with you all some great news, a few prayer requests and attempt to encourage the mothers of teen girls as they struggle to communicate with their daughters, when they feel like their words are going in their daughter’s ear and out the other. I give you some ideas, as well as share about a mentoring relationship I have with a teen girl in my church and the results that I have seen that confirm that what I have been doing with her has been worth it. I hope you will find that the things you are teaching to your child and instilling in them over and over are working as well.

I share with you how I preach what my momma preached to me and how it has paid off! Sweet tea and preaching, good Southern stuff, from this Southern gal. This week I share about money, and the importance of teaching our daughter’s about taking care of God’s money. This is something we will all have to do in life, whether your daughter chooses to live a life as a single person, get married, or get married and have children. She will have to take care of what God gives her. Money is given to us by God as a part of his provision. We are to take care of what he gives us. Many of us struggle with this, as wives and mothers, to either be content with what we have or to manage what we have, or maybe even to stretch what we have in order to pay for everything we need.

This month as I share on the show I was blessed to be able to hire a Christian financial counselor who shared with me some Biblical principles about money, some of which I’d never thought about before. I share some of these with you on this week’s show as well as another website I have found helpful as I am attempting to live more frugally this year and to get out of debt. This website is maintained by a young Christian mother, Crystal Payne. It is called Money Saving Mom and can be quite a help to you as a mom trying to make ends meet. I encourage you to teach your daughter how to manage money as Crystal’s mom taught her. I listened to Crystal’s appearances on Mom’s Love Shopping and was encouraged by what her mom taught her and she is now sharing with us, via the web.

Crystal has an awesome resource for moms who want to save money on grocery shopping. It is called Supermarket Savings 101 you can check it out just Click Here! I have purchased the course myself and really enjoyed using it.

I realize that the topic of money might seem strange to some for a mom-daughter show, but honestly, every daughter needs the blessing of her mother sharing with her how to handle the money that God blesses she and her family with, because it can be a struggle, especially just starting out.

I know this book is several years old, however it has just recently touched my life, therefore I wanted to share it with you. Mom-Daughter Connection Show #12 is starting off the New Year right talking about setting goals. I speak about my goals for 2008, and how to align your goals with God’s will. I bring up a few things to remember when striving to reach your goals and ways to encourage your daughter as she is setting her own goals and struggling to achieve them. Many times our goals take much longer than we imagined, but remembering God has a plan is important.
