Some Keys to Quiet Time

Quiet time
Quiet time or time alone with God is so important to all of us. I believe that it is how we as Christians grow in Christ. Becoming a Christian should be more to us than just fire insurance or a way to stay out of hell. I think it is important to emphasize to our children that being a Christian involves more than just accepting Jesus.

It is about forming and growing a relationship with God. As a youth/children’s minister, I used this example many times. If you have any relationship, whether it is with a friend, a parent, a boyfriend/girlfriend, how do you get to know that person, through spending time with them right? And if you do not spend time with them you cannot get to know them. The same goes with our relationship with God. We must spend time with Him in order to get to know Him, and there is no way that we will get to know Him if we do not spend time with Him. It is that simple. That is why our quiet time is so important.

The Christian life is a growth process, in order to grow we must spend time reading God’s word, talking to God, listening to God, memorizing Scripture, applying Scripture to our lives, all of these things we can do during our quiet time with God each day. There are some several keys to having a quiet time; I would like to briefly share some of them with you.

Keys to Quiet Time:
-Find a special place to have it.
-Bring your Bible, pen, paper and an open mind.
-Set aside a specific time each day.
-Be prepared to hear from God.

It truly is as simple as sitting down with a paper, pen, and Bible, though if you feel that you need other tools, a great devotional book such as 15 Minutes Alone with God is a good choice as well.
